Using WordPress
Getting Started
- Go to WordPress.com.
- Click on “Get Started.”
- Enter a name for your website. (You don’t actually need to create one, just go through the motions if you don’t already have a WordPress account and use a stand-in name.)
- Create your account.
Accept Your Invitation to Our Blog
- Once you’ve set up your WordPress account, email Shelby with your username or the email address you used to create your account.
- Shelby will send you an invitation.
- Click on the link in your email to accept the invitation.
Post to the Blog
- To create a new post, login to WordPress.
- From your homepage, select “My Sites.”
- Make sure the appropriate site is selected (in this case, Coming to Age).
- Click on “Posts” (located in the left-hand navigation pane).
- Click on “Add New Post.”
- Give your post a title, then click on the plus sign just below the title to start typing.
- I recommend drafting your post in Google Docs or Microsoft Word and then pasting them here. Editing in WordPress can be clunky.
Adding a “Read More” Tag
Avoid giant, page consuming text on our blog’s front page by adding a “Read More” tag after your first couple of sentences. This helps keep the blog looking clean and uncluttered.
Adding a Link
Highlight the text you’d like to hyperlink, then click the paperclip icon. Paste your link into the box when it appears and hit enter.
Services for Students with Disabilities
Every effort will be provided to make this class universally accessible. Though “reasonable accommodation” is the legal right of people with disabilities, this course is designed to be accessible for students regardless of disability or other individual categorization. If you anticipate issues related to the format or requirements of the course, please meet with us. We would like us to discuss ways to ensure your full participation in the course. If you determine that formal, disability related accommodations are necessary, it is important that you register with the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities so that accommodations can be arranged for this course and your future courses here at Mills. Please call (510) 430-2130 for an appointment.
