We will convene class at the Downtown Oakland Senior Center four times throughout the semester for a collaborative discussion about the text(s) you read during those weeks (see the schedule for details). You are responsible for your own transportation to the Senior Center (I recommend arranging a carpool). Please come on time and prepared to share your ideas.
Following each visit, you will complete a 500-word reflection describing your experience. What were your impressions of the Senior Center? How did its members surprise you or challenge the cultural stereotypes we’ve come to hold about seniors? What topics did you discuss with the seniors? What other ways of reading or cultural insight did you each bring to the text(s) you read? What did you mutually gain from your discussion? This reflection should highlight your shared experiences of reading.
Your reflections should be posted to the class blog no later than the following Wednesday night at 11:59 pm.
