During our first class meeting, each student will sign up to complete one cultural report on the text of their choice.
SINCE THE ON LINE SHIFT, CULTURAL REPORTS WILL BE POSTED ON LINE (IN THE LINKS IN THE SIGN UPS ABOVE!!)
This report will be delivered virtually, using Google Slides.
You will do the most creative and engaging on line report you can imagine, in which you introduce us to the topic at hand and link the topic to our text for that day. Your presentation will be submitted to Google Drive.
Engage us—the more creative the better!
These brief presentations are meant to add context and insight to the text(s) we will be discussing that day.
This assignment asks you to craft an engaging and critically astute presentation that informs our class of the link between any famous, infamous, wonderous or weird cultural object or event and a text of your choice. Your presentation should clearly express why you see this cultural object or event as relevant to your text and how and where, specifically, we see its influence woven throughout the work.

For example, a cultural report on Little Red Riding Hood might explore historical representations of wolves, the role of old women in other Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, lore surrounding the Black Forest, contemporary adaptations of LRRH, the religious or cultural significance of red garments, crossdressing and folklore, etc. The more niche and specific your topic is, the deeper it will push our discussion!
You need to use visuals for this report—PowerPoint, Slides, Keynote, handout, Prezi, whatever works best. Coordinate with Shelby Gibbs, our Classroom Assistant, at the beginning of class if you plan to project using technology.
You are not responsible for completing a reading response on the day you do a cultural report.
